Jeremiah 3:11
“Yahweh said to me, “Backsliding Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.”
What does Jeremiah 3:11 mean?
God is pointing out something painful but important here: Israel, the northern kingdom that had already fallen into exile and broken covenant, actually appears more honest than Judah in the south. Israel had openly rebelled and faced the consequences, while Judah kept pretending to follow God while secretly turning away, never truly repenting or owning their unfaithfulness. Sometimes genuine acknowledgment of failure, however humbling, is closer to righteousness than the self-deception of thinking we're okay when we're not. The invitation beneath these hard words is for Judah (and for us) to stop hiding and start being honest about where we've drifted.
