What does Jeremiah 3:10 mean?
God is pointing out something painfully human here: going through the motions of faith without genuine transformation of the heart. Judah has performed the external actions of repentance that were expected after watching Israel's downfall, but God sees that it's hollow, a show put on rather than real change. The devastating part is the word "pretense," which cuts to the deepest pain in any relationship: when someone says the right things or does the right actions, but you know they don't really mean it. This verse reminds us that God cares far more about the honest condition of our hearts than about whether we're checking religious boxes or appearing righteous to others.
