Jeremiah 27:7
“All the nations will serve him, his son, and his son’s son, until the time of his own land comes. Then many nations and great kings will make him their bondservant.”
What does Jeremiah 27:7 mean?
Jeremiah spoke these words during Judah's exile to Babylon, explaining God's plan to King Nebuchadnezzar. The prophet is saying that Babylon will dominate for generations, but this power won't last forever. Eventually, that great empire will fall and lose control to other rising powers, just as all human kingdoms eventually do. There's comfort in this message for those suffering under oppression: no earthly power holds the final word. What seems permanent and overwhelming today, even empires that feel unshakeable, will one day pass away. God's sovereignty outlasts every human kingdom, and He uses the rise and fall of nations according to His purposes, not their own.
