Jeremiah 27:6
“Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant. I have also given the animals of the field to him to serve him.”
What does Jeremiah 27:6 mean?
God is telling the people of Judah through the prophet Jeremiah that their exile under Babylon's king Nebuchadnezzar is not a mistake or a sign that God has abandoned them, but rather something the Lord himself has ordained and allowed. The striking phrase "my servant" applied to a foreign, pagan king shows that God uses whatever instruments he chooses to accomplish his purposes, even rulers who don't know or worship him. This was meant to comfort God's people by assuring them that what was happening had purpose and divine intention behind it, not random destruction. Even in difficulty and displacement, they could trust that God remained sovereign and in control of the situation.
