What does Jeremiah 27:2 mean?
God told the prophet Jeremiah to make wooden yokes and wear them as a symbolic message to the people around him. A yoke was the heavy wooden frame that bound oxen together for plowing, so this was a stark, uncomfortable visual aid meant to get everyone's attention. God was trying to warn the kingdoms of Judah and the surrounding nations that they needed to submit to Babylon's rule rather than resist it through rebellion, because that's what God had planned for that season. By literally wearing this symbol, Jeremiah's own body became the sermon, showing his neighbors that resistance would only bring heavier burdens, while accepting reality could bring survival.
