Jeremiah 23:32

Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams,” says Yahweh, “who tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their vain boasting; yet I didn’t send them or command them. They don’t profit this people at all,” says Yahweh.

What does Jeremiah 23:32 mean?

God is speaking directly against prophets who claim to speak for him but are actually spreading false messages, and he makes clear that he never authorized them in the first place. These deceivers use impressive-sounding words and dreams to lead people away from truth, and the result is real spiritual harm, not help. The key reassurance here is that God himself sees through the deception and opposes it, standing with those who have been misled rather than with the liars. If you've ever felt confused or hurt by someone claiming to speak God's truth, this verse affirms that God recognizes the difference between genuine guidance and manipulation, even when others don't.
