Jeremiah 23:21
“I didn’t send these prophets, yet they ran. I didn’t speak to them, yet they prophesied.”
What does Jeremiah 23:21 mean?
God is expressing His frustration with false prophets who claimed to speak for Him without any actual call or message from Him. These were people who appointed themselves as God's messengers, speaking whatever they thought people wanted to hear, rather than delivering what God actually wanted said. The tragedy is that they acted with urgency and confidence, "running" to spread their words, all while God had never commissioned them or given them anything to say. It's a sobering reminder that claiming to represent God carries real weight, and that speaking on His behalf without His actual call and direction is deeply serious business.
