Jeremiah 23:14
“In the prophets of Jerusalem I have also seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness. They have all become to me as Sodom, and its inhabitants as Gomorrah.””
What does Jeremiah 23:14 mean?
God is condemning the religious leaders of Jerusalem for using their influence in destructive ways. They weren't just breaking moral rules themselves (committing adultery and dishonesty), but worse, they were actively encouraging others to stay trapped in wrongdoing by approving of it rather than calling people toward change. The comparison to Sodom and Gomorrah shows how seriously God takes this corruption. When spiritual leaders normalize sin instead of pointing people toward repentance and healing, it damages entire communities. God's frustration here is directed at those who had the platform and responsibility to guide people toward better lives, yet did the opposite.
