Jeremiah 22:21

I spoke to you in your prosperity; but you said, ‘I will not listen.’ This has been your way from your youth, that you didn’t obey my voice.

What does Jeremiah 22:21 mean?

God is reminding Judah's leaders that He reached out to them when life was going well, when they had every advantage to hear and respond to Him. But they refused. What's striking here is the frustration in God's voice: this isn't a sudden problem, but a pattern stretching back to their youth, a stubborn refusal to listen that had become woven into their character. There's something convicting about this for those of us who also tend to ignore God's voice most readily when things are comfortable. We often wait until crisis forces our attention, missing the gentler invitations God extends when we're not desperate. The verse suggests that ignoring Him in good times isn't harmless, it's the beginning of a hardened way of living that can lead us further away from Him.
