Jeremiah 22:16

He judged the cause of the poor and needy; so it was well, then. Wasn’t this to know me?” says Yahweh.

What does Jeremiah 22:16 mean?

The prophet is describing King Josiah, who actively defended those with the least power and resources. When Josiah did this, things went well for him and his kingdom. God then asks a profound question: "Wasn't this to know me?" In other words, genuine relationship with God isn't just about private belief or ritual—it shows up in how we treat vulnerable people. Knowing God means living out what God values, which includes standing with those who have no one else to advocate for them.
