What does Jeremiah 21:2 mean?
King Zedekiah of Judah is desperate—the Babylonian army is closing in, and he's asking the prophet Jeremiah to pray and seek God's help, hoping that maybe God will perform one of those miraculous rescues he's famous for and drive the enemy away. It's a request born from fear and fading hope, the kind of prayer someone makes when they're out of options and grasping at the possibility that God might intervene. What makes this moment poignant is that Zedekiah is asking, but he's also already decided not to truly listen to what God says—and Jeremiah's answer, when it comes, won't be the one he wants to hear.
