Jeremiah 2:30
ββI have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.β
What does Jeremiah 2:30 mean?
God is describing how He has already sent consequences and warnings to His people, but they've refused to listen or change course. He's not speaking out of anger here so much as grief, like a parent watching their child ignore every attempt to redirect them from harm. The "sword" that devours the prophets refers to how Judah's leaders rejected and even killed God's messengers who came calling them back to faithfulness. Even when God made the cost of ignoring Him undeniable, the people still wouldn't turn around, which is why He sounds almost heartbroken in this moment.
