What does Jeremiah 2:26 mean?
Jeremiah is using a vivid comparison to show how deeply Israel had fallen into unfaithfulness. Just as a thief caught red-handed feels the burning shame of being exposed, the entire nation, from top leadership down to religious authorities, would experience that same crushing embarrassment when confronted with their abandonment of God.
