What does Jeremiah 2:17 mean?
God is asking Israel a hard but important question through the prophet Jeremiah: you've chosen to turn away from me, and that choice has consequences. The word "forsaken" here means deliberately abandoning someone who has been faithful to you, not just drifting away by accident. God reminds them that he had guided them faithfully, like a parent leading a child safely down a path, yet they chose to let go of his hand. This isn't meant as cruel accusation but as an awakening. When we face the painful results of our own choices, it can be easier to blame circumstances or other people than to admit we walked away from what we knew was good and true.
