“At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it;”
What does Jeremiah 18:7 mean?
God is describing how quickly his purposes can change when a nation's behavior changes. In the next verses, he explains that if a people turns from evil, he will relent from the disaster he planned for them, and if a people turns to doing evil, he will change his mind about any good he intended. This isn't God being arbitrary or harsh, but rather showing that his judgments aren't set in stone separate from human choice. Your nation's, your community's, your own trajectory isn't locked in place. Repentance and turning toward justice genuinely matter and can redirect the course ahead.
