Jeremiah 18:6
““House of Israel, can’t I do with you as this potter?” says Yahweh. “Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.”
What does Jeremiah 18:6 mean?
God is reminding the people of Israel that he has complete authority to shape and remake them according to his purposes. Just as a potter can reform clay on the wheel, reshaping it into something new if the first attempt doesn't work out, God has the power to reshape nations and people. This doesn't mean God is careless or cruel, but rather that our lives are ultimately in his hands, and he can redirect us toward better purposes than we've chosen for ourselves. The image speaks especially to people who feel stuck or broken. When the potter's work cracks or goes wrong, he doesn't discard the clay, he reworks it. Even when Israel had turned away and made poor choices, God was saying he still had plans to reform and redirect them toward something good.
