What does Jeremiah 15:5 mean?
These lines capture a moment of devastating abandonment, when the prophet speaks about Jerusalem's isolation after judgment has come. The rhetorical questions aren't meant to be answered literally, but rather to drive home how completely the city has been cut off, even from the compassion of neighboring nations who might normally show concern for a fallen neighbor. What makes this so piercing is that it comes after Jeremiah has been told by God that even his own prayers for the people won't be heard. The prophet himself is grieving for his city, yet he's being asked to deliver a message of such severity that no one will be left to comfort them.
