“When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.””
What does Jeremiah 14:12 mean?
God is telling Jeremiah that the people's religious practices have become hollow, and He won't honor them because their hearts aren't truly turned toward Him. Even fasting and sacrifices, which were supposed to show devotion, ring empty when offered by those living in disobedience and injustice. This is a hard message, but it reflects something God returns to again and again through the prophets: He cares far more about genuine repentance and right living than He does about religious performance. When that verse speaks of sword, famine, and pestilence, it's describing the real consequences the nation will face because their spiritual rebellion has left them without God's protection and guidance.
