Jeremiah 12:16

It will happen, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, ‘As Yahweh lives;’ even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then will they be built up in the middle of my people.

What does Jeremiah 12:16 mean?

God is describing a future where surrounding nations will abandon their false gods and fully embrace his ways, including adopting his covenant language and swearing by his name instead of Baal. The promise here is that when these nations genuinely commit to following God's path, they'll become part of his community and experience blessing and stability alongside his people. It's a beautiful picture of how transformation and true belonging come through learning God's ways from the inside out, not just superficially adopting religious customs. This reflects God's openness to drawing all people to himself when they turn toward him with sincere hearts.
