Jeremiah 11:21
““Therefore Yahweh says concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, ‘You shall not prophesy in Yahweh’s name, that you not die by our hand;’”
What does Jeremiah 11:21 mean?
Jeremiah's own hometown of Anathoth had turned against him because his prophecies of judgment made them uncomfortable. The people there were threatening to kill him if he continued speaking God's word, hoping to silence the difficult message he carried. This verse shows us the real cost Jeremiah faced for faithfulness, not from distant enemies but from his own community and possibly even family. His struggle reminds us that doing what God asks sometimes means standing alone, even among those we once belonged to.
