Jeremiah 11:12
“Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.”
What does Jeremiah 11:12 mean?
When trouble comes, people often turn to whatever they've trusted before, hoping for rescue. Jeremiah is describing how the people of Judah had grown comfortable appealing to false gods (idols they burned incense to), and when crisis arrives, they'll desperately call out to those same powerless sources. The prophet's point is heartbreaking but clear: those things that seemed comforting or helpful in easier times won't be able to deliver when real danger hits. It's a warning about what happens when we build our security on things that were never meant to hold us, and how panic during hardship can drive us to seek help from sources that have never actually helped us at all.
