What does Jeremiah 10:23 mean?

Jeremiah is confessing something deeply human: we can't navigate life successfully on our own strength or wisdom. No matter how capable we feel or how carefully we plan, we're limited creatures working with incomplete information and clouded judgment. The prophet is acknowledging that real direction and security come only from God, not from our own efforts or self-confidence. This hits especially hard during seasons when we've tried everything we know to do and still feel lost. It can be freeing rather than discouraging, actually, because it releases us from the exhausting burden of having to figure everything out ourselves. The invitation here is to stop white-knuckling control and instead ask God to guide our steps, trusting that He sees the full picture we can't.
