Jeremiah 10:22
“The voice of news, behold, it comes, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place of jackals.”
What does Jeremiah 10:22 mean?
Jeremiah speaks here about an invasion spreading rapidly across the land, bringing chaos and destruction from the north. The "voice of news" means frightening reports are traveling from place to place as armies advance, and the "great commotion" describes the panic and upheaval this causes. By saying cities will become "a dwelling place of jackals," he's painting a picture of total abandonment and ruin, since jackals only inhabit desolate, uninhabited places. This was Jeremiah's warning to Judah that if they didn't turn back to God, foreign armies (historically the Babylonians) would sweep through and leave their once-thriving cities empty and destroyed.
