James 4:1
“Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?”
What does James 4:1 mean?
James is asking his readers to look honestly at the conflicts tearing apart their community. He's suggesting that arguments and divisions don't come from nowhere, but from competing desires within each person, desires that clash with one another and with others' desires. When we want different things intensely, we naturally push against whoever stands in our way. The friction comes from inside us first, then spills outward into how we treat each other. James invites us to trace our conflicts back to their root, not just to blame the other person or circumstance, but to examine what we're really fighting for and why it matters so much to us.
