James 2:7
“Don’t they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?”
What does James 2:7 mean?
James is asking a pointed question here: don't the rich people who mistreat the poor actually dishonor the very name of Jesus that Christians bear? He's pointing out a painful contradiction. When we claim to follow Christ but treat people with contempt based on their wealth or status, we're essentially saying that Jesus's name and values don't really matter to us in practice. This hits especially hard for anyone trying to live faithfully, because it reminds us that our actions speak louder than our words about what we actually believe. The "honorable name" refers to being called Christian, being identified with Jesus. James is essentially saying: if you're going to claim that name, your treatment of the vulnerable has to match it. You can't separate your faith from how you treat others.
