Isaiah 8:20
“Turn to the law and to the testimony! If they don’t speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.”
What does Isaiah 8:20 mean?
When Isaiah wrote this, God's people were surrounded by voices claiming to speak truth—false prophets, competing ideas, spiritual confusion. He's urging them to check everything against what God has actually revealed: the law (God's instruction and covenant) and the testimony (the witness of what God has done and promised). The "morning" in the last part isn't about literal daybreak, but hope, clarity, and life itself. Isaiah is saying that when we listen to voices that contradict God's revealed character and ways, we lose our way forward. We end up in spiritual darkness with no dawn in sight.
