Isaiah 66:5
“Hear Yahweh’s word, you who tremble at his word: “Your brothers who hate you, who cast you out for my name’s sake, have said, ‘Let Yahweh be glorified, that we may see your joy;’ but it is those who shall be disappointed.”
What does Isaiah 66:5 mean?
God speaks here to people who have been rejected and cast out by their own families and communities for following him faithfully. The cruel irony is that those doing the rejecting claim they're doing it in God's name, even saying they want to see God glorified, but their words ring hollow because their actions contradict their faith. What Isaiah is really saying is this: the people trembling before God, the faithful ones being persecuted, will ultimately experience joy and vindication. The mockers and rejectors who think they're winning will be the ones left disappointed. It's a word of comfort to the isolated believer, assuring them that loyalty to God matters more than acceptance from those around them, and that God sees and honors that faithfulness even when it costs everything.
