Isaiah 59:6

Their webs won’t become garments. They won’t cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of iniquity, and acts of violence are in their hands.

What does Isaiah 59:6 mean?

Isaiah paints a picture of people whose efforts to cover themselves morally and spiritually come to nothing. Just as a spider's web is too fragile to be real clothing, the defensive schemes and self-justifications of those doing wrong can't actually protect them or make them right. The prophet is saying that injustice and violence don't stay hidden behind excuses, no matter how hard someone tries to make their wrongdoing acceptable or invisible. There's an honesty here about how our own actions reveal who we really are, even when we desperately want to hide or reframe them.
