Isaiah 59:4

No one sues in righteousness, and no one pleads in truth. They trust in vanity, and speak lies. They conceive mischief, and give birth to iniquity.

What does Isaiah 59:4 mean?

Isaiah is describing a society where justice has completely broken down. People aren't arguing cases fairly or honestly anymore, they're using deception and manipulation to get what they want, trusting in empty promises rather than truth. The imagery of conceiving and giving birth to wrongdoing shows how sin doesn't just happen by accident, but grows from intention, taking root and multiplying in a community's heart. This paints a picture of moral collapse where people have chosen lies and schemes over honesty, and the consequences ripple outward to poison everything around them.
