Isaiah 58:7
“Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?”
What does Isaiah 58:7 mean?
God is asking us to show our faith through concrete, costly action—feeding the hungry, welcoming the vulnerable into our homes, clothing those without, and caring for our own family members. The passage challenges us to move beyond comfortable piety or empty religious practice into the messy, inconvenient work of actually meeting people's basic needs. When Isaiah asks "isn't it," he's appealing to something we already know deep down: that real worship of God means opening our homes, our tables, and our hearts to those society has pushed to the margins. This isn't about guilt or obligation, but about recognizing that the people we'd rather ignore or pass by are our own flesh and blood, deserving of dignity and care.
