Isaiah 57:12
“I will declare your righteousness; and as for your works, they will not benefit you.”
What does Isaiah 57:12 mean?
God is saying something that might sound harsh at first, but it's actually an invitation to stop trusting in the wrong things. The people Isaiah is addressing have been relying on their own good deeds and reputation to save them, as if their works could somehow earn God's favor or protect them. But God is pointing out that no amount of self-righteousness or accomplishment can actually rescue us from our deepest needs. The promise here is that God will declare their righteousness for them, not because they earned it, but because God offers it freely. It's a gentle way of saying: stop exhausting yourself trying to prove you're good enough, because that path doesn't lead anywhere. When we rest in what God declares about us instead of what we've accomplished, we find the security and peace we've been searching for all along.
