Isaiah 55:2
“Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which doesn’t satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in richness.”
What does Isaiah 55:2 mean?
Isaiah is speaking to people who are exhausted from chasing things that don't actually fill them up, whether that's literal hunger during a time of hardship or the deeper kind of emptiness that comes from pursuing the wrong goals. He's inviting them to stop wasting their energy on things that leave them hollow and instead to turn their attention toward what truly nourishes, which in his context means listening to God's word and promise. The beauty of this verse is that it names something many of us know too well: we can work ourselves ragged and still feel starved. Isaiah isn't shaming anyone for that struggle, but gently asking, "What if there's a better way?" He's saying that real satisfaction isn't found in what we accumulate or achieve on our own, but in something that feeds us from the inside.
