Isaiah 55:1
““Hey! Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters! Come, he who has no money, buy, and eat! Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”
What does Isaiah 55:1 mean?
God is calling out to people who feel empty and exhausted, inviting them to come and be satisfied completely free of charge. The prophet uses the image of someone desperately thirsty coming to water and hungry people buying food, but here there's no payment required because God's nourishment is a gift, not a transaction. This was written to exiles who felt abandoned and worthless, reminding them that God's provision isn't earned through wealth or status or perfect behavior. The extravagant generosity in the invitation, with its repeated "come" and the specifics of wine and milk, conveys that what God offers isn't bare survival but genuine joy and abundance.
