What does Isaiah 5:9 mean?
Isaiah was delivering a hard message to the wealthy and powerful people of his time who were building grand estates while ignoring injustice and oppression around them. God is saying that all their impressive buildings and possessions won't protect them from the consequences coming their way, and those beautiful homes will end up empty and abandoned. It's a sobering reminder that material wealth and status can't insulate us from accountability, and that what we build often crumbles when we've built it on a foundation of selfishness. For many of us today, there's wisdom in that: the things we pour our energy into matter far less than how we treat people and what kind of character we're actually developing.
