Isaiah 47:11
“Therefore disaster will come on you. You won’t know when it dawns. Mischief will fall on you. You won’t be able to put it away. Desolation will come on you suddenly, which you don’t understand.”
What does Isaiah 47:11 mean?
Isaiah is addressing the nation of Babylon here, warning of the consequences of pride and cruelty. The passage describes a sudden, overwhelming judgment that catches people off guard, particularly those who felt secure in their power and control. There's something both sobering and honest about this language. The prophet isn't promising that life will always make sense or that consequences arrive on a predictable schedule. Sometimes difficulty comes unexpectedly, catching us when we feel most confident or unprepared.
