What does Isaiah 47:10 mean?
This passage is God's rebuke to Babylon through the prophet Isaiah, but the warning speaks to anyone who believes their actions go unnoticed and unaccounted for. When we trust in our own wrongdoing—thinking we can get away with something because no one's watching—we're living in a dangerous illusion that actually blinds us to reality. The "wisdom and knowledge" that have twisted the speaker become a kind of pride that insulates them from seeing their own need for God or accountability. It's a picture of someone so caught up in their own power and cleverness that they've convinced themselves they answer to no one, forgetting that such isolation is ultimately a prison rather than freedom.
