What does Isaiah 45:10 mean?
This is Isaiah's rebuke against those who question or mock their parents for having children, especially children with disabilities or difficulties. The verse uses "woe" (a serious warning) because such mockery shows a fundamental lack of respect for the sacred act of creating life itself. In ancient culture, as in many places today, children born with challenges sometimes faced cruel judgment, and parents were sometimes shamed for "producing" them. The deeper truth Isaiah is expressing is that life itself is a gift, not something to be criticized or scorned. Parents don't control what children come into the world, and neither do the children themselves. When we shame people for their existence or their limitations, we're essentially rebelling against the mystery and miracle of life. This verse invites us to receive all human life with dignity and wonder, rather than judgment.
