What does Isaiah 44:10 mean?
Isaiah is challenging people who make idols by asking a pointed question: why would you spend time crafting something out of wood or metal, treating it as divine, when it can't actually help you or do anything at all? The prophet is highlighting the absurdity of pouring energy and devotion into objects that have no power, no consciousness, and no ability to care for you or answer you. This connects to a deeper truth about where we place our trust. The question invites us to think about what we're giving our attention and hope to in our own lives, and whether those things can truly sustain us or whether we're looking to something that ultimately "profits" us nothing. Real strength and guidance, Isaiah suggests, comes from turning toward God instead.
