What does Isaiah 43:18 mean?

God invites us to stop replaying our past, whether it's old failures, ancient hurts, or the way things used to be. This doesn't mean pretending hard things never happened, but rather releasing the grip they have on our present moment and future hope. The context shows God is about to do something new in the lives of his people, and clinging to old disappointments would keep us from seeing it. When we're stuck rehearsing what went wrong or longing for how things used to be, we miss what God is doing right now.
