Isaiah 40:26

Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their army by number. He calls them all by name. by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, Not one is lacking.

What does Isaiah 40:26 mean?

When Isaiah invites people to look up at the night sky, he's inviting them into wonder about God's character. The stars were an almost unimaginable mystery in ancient times, yet the prophet describes them as known and named by God, each one counted and called into being. This was meant to comfort exiles who felt lost and forgotten, reminding them that if God knows and tends countless stars with such care and precision, surely their own lives matter to him too. The passage speaks to something we still need: when we feel small or overlooked, the vastness of creation can paradoxically comfort us, because that same God who sustains everything also sustains us.
