Isaiah 40:21
“Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard? Haven’t you been told from the beginning? Haven’t you understood from the foundations of the earth?”
What does Isaiah 40:21 mean?
Isaiah asks these questions not to scold, but to remind people of something they already know deep down: God has been made known since the very beginning of creation. The prophet is speaking to people feeling forgotten or distant from God, gently pointing out that evidence of God's power and character is woven into the fabric of existence itself, available to anyone who has eyes to see it. These aren't rhetorical questions meant to make you feel small. Instead, they're an invitation to remember and recognize what's already true about God's steadfastness. In a season when everything feels chaotic or uncertain, Isaiah is saying that God's reality isn't something brand new you need to discover, but something fundamental you can return to and trust.
