Isaiah 40:18
“To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to him?”
What does Isaiah 40:18 mean?
God is asking us a pointed question: who or what could possibly be equal to him? The prophet Isaiah is reminding people during a time of exile and discouragement that no human ruler, no idol, no earthly power can truly be compared to God's greatness and character. This question invites us to recognize how far beyond our understanding God actually is, not to make us feel small, but to help us see that our problems and fears are smaller still when held against his infinite power and wisdom.
