What does Isaiah 38:22 mean?

King Hezekiah has just been told by the prophet Isaiah that God will heal him from a deadly illness, but his mind immediately goes to the practical question: how will he know this promise is real? He's asking for proof, something concrete he can point to that confirms God's healing work in his life. This honest request for reassurance is something many of us can relate to. When we're in crisis or receiving hard-to-believe good news, wanting some kind of confirmation isn't faithlessness, it's being human. God actually grants Hezekiah's request by providing a miraculous sign (the shadow on a sundial moves backward), showing that doubt and the desire for assurance can coexist with faith.
