What does Isaiah 36:3 mean?
When the Assyrian army surrounded Jerusalem, King Hezekiah sent three of his most trusted officials to meet with the enemy commander. Eliakim held the most important position, essentially running the kingdom's daily operations, while Shebna handled official records and Joah documented important events. These men were facing an intimidating situation, but they stepped forward anyway because their people needed someone to stand between them and a threat. There's something worth noticing here: even in moments of real danger and uncertainty, faithful people showed up and did their duty. They didn't have all the answers, and they were probably afraid, but they went out to listen and respond. If you're in a season where you feel called to face something difficult, this reminds us that courage often just means doing the next right thing, even when you'd rather hide.
