What does Isaiah 33:8 mean?
Isaiah was describing a time of catastrophic collapse, when normal life had completely fallen apart. The image of empty highways and silent roads captures a society in crisis, where safety has vanished and people are too afraid or defeated to move about. The mention of a broken covenant points to a failure in the relationship between God and his people, a fracturing of trust that had consequences rippling through everything.
