Isaiah 30:7
“For Egypt helps in vain, and to no purpose; therefore I have called her Rahab who sits still.”
What does Isaiah 30:7 mean?
God is saying that Egypt's military power won't save Judah from the Assyrian threat, no matter how much the people hope otherwise. The name "Rahab" (meaning "proud" or "blustering") was a dismissive term for Egypt, suggesting that all their supposed strength amounts to nothing but empty boasting. It's a hard word: God is telling his people that trusting in human alliances and earthly military might is pointless when they've turned away from him. There's both judgment here and an invitation to stop wasting energy on false solutions and instead return to the only help that actually matters.
