Isaiah 28:11
“But he will speak to this nation with stammering lips and in another language;”
What does Isaiah 28:11 mean?
God is warning the people of Judah that because they've rejected his clear message through the prophets, he'll eventually communicate with them in a way that feels foreign and hard to understand. The "stammering lips and another language" refers to what happened when Assyrian invaders conquered the northern kingdom of Israel—suddenly God's people heard a language they didn't know, and the comfort of familiar communication was gone. It's a sobering image of what distance from God looks like: when we turn away from straightforward truth, we end up confused and alienated. Yet even this harsh consequence carries an odd mercy, because it's God's way of saying, "I haven't stopped speaking to you, even when you've stopped listening."
