What does Hosea 8:3 mean?
When Israel rejected God's guidance and turned toward idolatry and injustice, they weren't just making a religious mistake, they were abandoning the very thing that had protected and sustained them. The "good" here means God's laws, God's presence, and the covenant relationship that held their society together. Without that foundation, they became vulnerable, and the prophet warns that hostile nations (like Assyria, which was threatening Israel at this time) would move in to exploit their weakness and instability.
