What does Hosea 8:2 mean?

Israel is calling out to God, claiming loyalty and recognition of him as their God, yet the very next verses reveal they're doing this while turning away from what's good and pursuing false gods. The cry itself isn't insincere, but it's hollow, like someone saying the right words while their heart and actions go somewhere else entirely. This captures a deeply human struggle: we can acknowledge God with our mouths while our actual choices betray where our trust really lies. Hosea is showing us that God sees through surface-level declarations, and what matters is whether our whole lives, not just our words, reflect genuine devotion to him.
