What does Hosea 7:6 mean?
Hosea uses a vivid kitchen image to describe how people secretly plan harm against each other. The "oven" represents a heart that's been heated up with anger and plotting, getting hotter and hotter while someone pretends to sleep or act innocent. By morning, that carefully stoked anger bursts into open flame, and what was hidden becomes destructive reality. The prophet is calling out a pattern we still recognize today: the slow burn of resentment, the late-night scheming, the false calm before things explode into conflict. Hosea's point is that sin doesn't usually strike like lightning. It simmers. It grows. And when it finally ignites, everyone can see the fire that was being prepared all along. The image invites us to notice our own hearts and what we might be quietly nursing there.
